Chrysler Repair: dash lights wont work in 1992 lebaron, chrysler lebaron, soldering pencil

Question
My mother owns a '92 Chrysler lebaron and the newest problem that it has is the for some strange reason the dash lights won't turn on.
The battery and alternator are fine car runs just no lights any suggestion on what it might be?

Answer
Hi Bev,
There are two possibilities:
She has accidentally turned the dimmer control on the headlamp switch to the place where it turns off all the lamps on the dash (not just the cluster, but all of them) so if that is the case look for that variable position knob on the headlamp switch and try moving it one way or the other,
If it is just the instrument cluster that doesn't light up, but the rest of the dash lamps do, then there is a disconnect in the wire from a splice where all the lamps get their voltage that goes to the instrument cluster and I suspect it would be a 'cold' solder joint in the circuit board for that specfic cluster illumination wire. That could be fixed by removing the cluster and touching the joint with a soldering pencil to re-establish the connection.
I assume this is a conventional (non-digital) cluster, and that she has the convertible body Lebaron.
Let me know what you find.
