Chrysler Repair: 2002 chrysler sebring stalling, chrysler sebring, wd 40

Question
I have a 2002 Chrysler sebring that wont idol and stalls out unless you use the gas to hold the rpm up, it isn't the alternator and this happened before about a week ago then after the car set for about 2 or 3 hours it stopped stalling out and ran fine for until today a week later. any info you could give to help diagnose this would be greatly appreciated thank you

Answer
Hi John,
I would take a look at the egr valve as possible sticking slightly ajar which leans out the mixture too much at idle to sustain. Check the underhood sticker to see whether you have that valve. The 2.5L V-6 does, the 2.7L doesn't (I believe). If it does, check the valve stem that is located between the valve body proper and the vacuum actuator on top, in the flange area between the two. The stem has a slot into which you can insert the tip of a screwdriver to test its motion. The internal spring-action could close the valve positively to a dead stop. If not, then spray some WD-40 on the stem where it enters the body of the valve and work it back and forth.
Other than that valve, you could try to get any fault codes from the computer: turn the igntion:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage changes to show a 4-digit number preceeded by a P. Then let me know the number and we'll go from there.
