Chrysler Repair: air blower/air distribution:00 Sebring Convt., blower motor resistor, self calibration

Question
I have a 2000 JXI Sebring Convertible. My air condition only blows out the defrost and bottom. Also it only blows on high. What can I do to fix it?

Answer
Hi Carol,
The only blows on high syndrome is due to the blower motor resistor block having failed. It is located under the dash in the right hand side of the heater/ac housing unit. On the underside of the unit you will find a round housing that contains the blower motor (turn on to help locate it). Then notice a pair of twisted wires at that housing. Trace the wires back to their inception which is in fact the blower motor resistor block. It has a couple of screws that hold it in place with the resistor themselves being inside the housing. Remove the plug and the screws and the block will drop out for replacement. Be sure the individual resistors of the new block don't touch oneanother before installing.
The problem with the air distribution may just be a need for self-calibration of the mode door motor. If you look under the dash on the left hand end you will find the junction block (i.e. fuse box) and once there locate fuse #5 which is on the left side, 4th fuse from the top. Remove that fuse for 60 seconds or more, then reinsert and see whether the mode door recalibrates so that you re-gain control over the air. If not, then the mode door motor has to be replaced. It is located on the left side of the underdash heater/ac housing.
