where is the thermostat located and how do you change it?  Also how can you check  to see if the water pump is working?

Answer
In general, the top radiator hose comes from a manifold on the engine which contain the thermostat. So follow that hose and see where it leads you. There is no easy way to observe the action of the pump except by observing the outflow of it as the engine warms and open the thermostat which you could do by removing the top hose at the radiator but be prepared to catch the coolant and to avoid getting it splashed all over the engine compartment. While the impeller may fail, it doesn't happen often.
