Chrysler Repair: 1992 dodge spirit transmission: limp-in mode, dodge spirit, fuse block

Question
My dodge spirit is sticking in second gear until you turn it off and back on then in a few minutes it does the same thing have replaced output speed sensor with no fix

Answer
Hi Thomas,
Not leaving second gear is called limp-in mode and it does that to avoid further damage. You need to get a fault code readout from the transmission controller via a blue color socket (6 pins/3 on a side) that is under the dash near the fuse block/left of the steering column. Get the two digit fault code number and that will give us an idea of what needs to be done. This requires an OBD-I type code reader so you may have to go to an independent (non-franchise) trans shop or a dealer or and indenpendent garage with such a plug and reader to get the codes. Let me know what code numbers come out, what they say they mean, what they recommend to do, and for how much. Then we'll compare notes with the manual for the electronic transaxle. The reaout is NOT done via the black plug in the engine compartment which is exclusively for the the engine computer. The two plugs have a different shape and color.
