Chrysler Repair: 2000 Grand Caravan: AC use causes shaking, grand caravan, drawing power

Question
When the cooling fan comes on the front end shakes real hard.  This usually happens when the A/C comes on. If I turn of the A/C and start the van and the AC isn't on it doesn't shake.  But if stopped and the A/C is on it starts back up. What should I do to stop this?

Answer
Hi Mark,
How is the rpm of the engine responding when you start the AC? The automatic idle control system is supposed to take up the slack caused by the compressor drawing power from the engine by giving more 'gas' to the engine.
Is the shaking due to there being too low an rpm?
Or is the engine shaking because of the a worn engine mount?
How is the AC working? Maybe the compressor is not working well/requiring too much torque to turn it?
I would suggest that you open the hood and see what it all looks like and also check the tachometer for the rpm when the AC is on and compare to rpm when it is off.
Once you sort out what exactly is going on you will have a better shot at correcting it.
