Chrysler Repair: gas filling problem: 300M, new tank, gas cap

Question
Just recently we are having a problem filling our 300M Special with gas. The only way to fill the tank is holding the nozzle and holding the lever and going very slow.
We have gone to other station and have the same problem.
What is the problem?

Answer
Hi Wayne,
The vapor capture system may be operating when you turn off the vehicle at the gas station which is temporary, but it is a situation where the vent of the tank is shut off. The two ways to get around it are to wait for a while before opening the gas cap, or to remove the gas cap and wait for a while for the internal pressure to vent in the normal way via the recirculation line that goes from the tank back to an opening just inside the fill hole. Basically I believe the only cure is to be patient before starting the refill procedure. It is possible too that a check valve at the opening inside the tank is sticking partially closed. Unfortunately that check valve is not serviceable so you would need a new tank.
So try waiting before initiating the refill.
