Chrysler Repair: 00 Cirrus/Stratus/Breeze: radio, interior lights, power windows, amp fuse, volt ohm meter

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a 2000 4 door plymouth breeze and yesterday the radio, interior lights and the power windows don't work. I checked the fuses and non of them were blown.  What could be the problem?

ANSWER: Hi Pat,
I have the '99 manual which if applicable to your '00 I would say that fuse 5 (10 amp) in the fuse box under the dash has a crack in its internal wire so that would take out the radio and interior lights. The power windows appear to only need circuit breaker no. 2, also in the box, so try resetting that. Otherwise, I don't see any common cause.

QUESTION: Thank you, But how do I fix the issue? Do I have to take in to the dealer or can I simply replace the fuse?

Answer
Hi Pat,
Just remove the fuse and inspect it carefully for a subtle crack. If you don't find one, nonetheless look for another 10 amp fuse and substitute it. Fuses can fatigue over time with usage so unless it blows immediately after you put in a good one this is all you have to do. If it blows again, then you will have to do some sleuthing with a volt-ohm meter to find out why. But start by replacing the fuse and see if that solves it.
