Chrysler Repair: 2000 dodge grand caravan cooling fan circuit, dodge grand caravan, fuse box

Question
i recently purchased a 2000 dodge grand caravan se, wich runs well except for the fact that the previous owner has HOT WIRED the cooling fan to the main fuse box inside the engine compartment, and relayed it to two separate toggle switches inside the passanger compartment on the dash panel. the fans do work properly as long as you remember to turn them on when starting, and off when finished. i would like to disconnect them from this and return them to the correct operating position. the only problem is that i cannot find the propper wiring diagram . could you please instruct me on the proper proceedure for this or tell me where i can get the proper diagram, as well as what i should look for while completing this. i usually do not have a problem completing mechanical work . but i dont like playing with  electrical systems  thank you

Answer
Hi Steve,
There is a fan relay that is "solid state" and thus needs cooling to keep it from overheating. It has been mounted and various locations as the years went by but I believe that in the '00 model year you will find it underneath the left headlamp module. If you remove the module you should find it there. I am not sure how the previous owner is powering the fans with the switches but if you can find the relay you may find the original wiring. Probably the relay overheated and failed as this was fairly common and in fact prompted a recall in the latter 90's models (and maybe the '00?). I can xerox copy and postal mail you the circuit diagram for the '98 manual which is similar and probably will equally apply to your van. Then you can re-wire it and try a new relay. The relay should have wires from the ignition switch and powertrain controller (which activate the relay) and wires from a high current fuse and wires that go to the fans to power them. Give me postal mailing address and I'll send the pages.
