Chrysler Repair: 99 grnd cherokee limited - limp mode, grand cherokee limited, diog

Question
QUESTION: I recently purchased a 99 grand cherokee limited (4.7 V8) that wants to slip into limp mode. Have had the diagnostic run, cleared the code only to have it slip into limp mode again. tire sizes are all 245/70 16s, inflation is good all around. I'm being told I should have the tcm replaced or possibly the transmission selenoid. In your opinion what is more likely the problem ?

ANSWER: need to have the tranny computer scanned to get the codes for the limp mode.

QUESTION: Getting a p0700 code back from the pcm.
from my searching on the web forums I'm being told it is most likely the i/o speed sensor(s). I understand they're notorious for that.My question is how do I tell if I need the single unit sensor or the rfe - 2 sensors ? The dealership here says they need my vin, $79 diagnostic, blah blah blah. For what I think they'll try to nail me with anything and everything....I aint buyin'.

Answer
U have a 45RFE tranny  its not like what U think  if u want to shoot in the dark and guess that its a speed sensor go ahead  the 700 like U said just tell the pcm that the tranny computer is reporting an issue  what they issue is U will need a good  scanner to get into the TCM and see what the real codes are and go from there.
The dealer will be able to go into the tranny computer and see just what the codes are and give U a correct diog and not guess.
Web forums are a help to what other people have had issues with but they are not the same every time  if u had a code that showed up all the time and it was the same issue  then yes a web forum is helpful  in this cause u dont have a code and there for can not make a correct diog and simply guess at the issue    U will end up spending more money then what u wanted and could have avoided the whole mess by taking it to some one that can read the codes and go from there.
