Chrysler Repair: Sebring convertible seat belt lock electronics, 66 impala, seat belts

Question
QUESTION:   I am going to put a pair of 96 Sebring convertible front seats into a 66 Impala convertible.  What do I need to do to make the seat belts work?  They are locked in the retracted position now.

ANSWER: Hi Steve,
The belts are released by a solenoid located in each seat back. There is a two-wire plug on each seat that is attached to the solenoid. If you ground the black wire (-post of battery) and attach the orange/black or light green/red wire to the + post of battery that will release the belts. I am not sure how this will work out for you in a car like a '66 that is not equipped for automatic seat belts. But at least this is how to get them released from the locked position.

QUESTION:   Thanks for the quick answer Roland.  What do they use for a trigger mechanism?  I could rob those parts out of the bone yard where I got the seats or possibly put a G force switch on them that would break contact if an impact were to occur.   Thanks again

Answer
Hi Steve,
The seat belt control module is located at the rear of the center console. It has a natural color 13-pin plug (with 8 wires). The belts are locked unless the logic tells them to release. So there is no g-force issue and all the sensor and logic that are involved with that. You may be able to get around the need of the body controller/door ajar sensor issue, with some sacrifice of convenience. I can xerox and postal mail you the pages about the module and its wiring diagram and you can see how to fold it into the '66 system. If you will tell me a postal mailing address I can send them. If you would be so kind as to send me back three 42-cent stamps to cover the copy and stamp to send them to you that would be appreciated.
