Chrysler Repair: oil consumption?, plymouth breeze, oil consumption

Question
I have a 1998 Plymouth Breeze I recently got my oil changed about 2 weeks ago ( i deliver pizza) checked my oil today and after about 1,100 miles I had to put in a quarter and a half. Can you tell me if this is normal or what some of the causes may be?

Answer
Hi Mike,
It either has to be burning and coming out the tail pipe as blue smoke which you can observe by following behind while a friend drives the car, and watching after it has decelerated and then during the immediately following acceleration to see the color of any smoke coming from the tailpipe;
or it could be leaking from the engine so check underneath it after it is parked;
or it could be in the cooling system if you have a headgasket leak, but then you would also find the oil to be milky/cloudy if that were the case.
You didn't say how many miles are on the engine so I can't comment on whether this is normal without some knowledge of how far it has gone since new.
So check out the possibilities and let me know.
