Chrysler Repair: Turn Signal Flashing continuously:Sebring Coupe 97, chrysler sebring lxi, left turn signal

Question
Left Turn Signal Flashing continuously
1997 Chrysler Sebring LXI Coupe Vin N
I replaced the turn signal multi-function switch with a used part. The old one had a broken lobe inside.  I also replaced the flasher with a new one.  I unhooked the battery.  It is acting like it doesn't want to reset after the turn.  The left blinker is constant.  I can't figure it out.  The original problem was I signaled to make a left hand turn it flashed left and it stayed flashing.
Thank you,
Ed

Answer
Hi Ed,
I believe I understand what the problem is at the moment, but I need to verify. The left turn bulbs are blinking and you can't shut them off, correct? Does that happen no matter whether the ignition switch is on or off? Or just when it is on?  If the blinking continues even when the ignition is off and that is why you disconnected the battery, then I believe that you have a broken hazard switch which is keeping the left side hazard lights on all the time. It has three internal switches and two of those have failed, or the wires associated with that switch have shorted together. Have you replaced the hazard switch?
I would go to that switch and pull its plug, which should shut down the hazards and the turn signals. Then notice that the switch has 10-pins, and the numbers of those pins are shown on the plug and possibly on the body of switch too. I would test the pins of the unplugged switch first: When the hazards are 'off' 7 should be connected to 5 but, 6 should not be connected to 5. When put the hazards 'on' then the reverse should be true. Is that the case? Similarly when the hazards are off '4' should not be connected to either 1 or 4, but when it is 'on' 5 should be connected to both 1 and 4.
If any of those are incorrect, the hazard switch is the problem. If all are correct, then the wires associated with those pins are shorted together somewhere nearby.
