Chrysler Repair: Starter 2001 Dodge Stratus 2.7, starter solenoid, starter 2001

Question
I need to put a starter in a 2001 Dodge Stratus 2.7. Where is the starter located?
Front or Rear? Is it Completely covered by a heat shield? Does anyone have a
diagram or step by step on how to do this?  On this motor do I have to pull a
motor mount and support the motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Brian,
Here are the steps for the 2.7L engine (based on its use in the LH body cars, which should be identical to the Stratus situation):
After disconnecting battery - post raise the vehicle,
remove one nut on the catalytic converter support bracket.
remove two nuts from cat. conv. support bracket mounting.
remove two wire connectors from starter...the fat battery feed wire  and the posi-lock connector from the relay to the starter solenoid
remove two bolts and one nut from starter heat shield
remove three starter attaching bolts from engine/transaxle
remove starter away from transmission housing
rotate starter solenoid toward the engine block and slide rear of starter motor out between the catalytic converter and the engine mount
remove starter from vehicle
Installation is the reverse.
I hope this applies to the set up in your Stratus. I can't be certain about your questions because I only have manuals thru the 2000 model year, before the 2.7 went in the Stratus. But it appears to be on the side of the engine closer to the front of the car. The part having to do with the cat. converter therefor doesn't apply to the situation.
