Chrysler Repair: 2004 Chrysler Sebring Body Control Module, 2004 chrysler sebring, variable illumination

Question
IN REGARDS TO THE LIGHTING AND WIRING CONNECTIONS ON A 2004 CHRYSLER SEBRING, I HAVE REMOVED THE AFTERMARKET STEREO AND PUT THE ORIGINAL BACK IN THE CAR, BUT THE DASH LIGHTS STILL DO NOT WORK.  I HAVE CHECKED ALL FUSES, HAVE POWER TO LEFT TAILLIGHT BUT NOT THE RIGHT.  GROUND WIRES CHECK OUT BUT NO VOLTAGE TO RIGHT SIDE.  COULD THE BODY CONTROL MODULE ITSELF BE FUSED INTERNALLY.

Answer
Hi Hal,
I wonder if you solved the issue with the lights? Please feel free to get back via the "thank/rate" tab.
I'm only 2 votes short of catching up to the fellow who leads the race to be 'expert of the month'. So if you would take a moment to use the "thank/rate" tab below to give me another vote, that too would be much appreciated. Best wishes for the New Year.

Question:  MY SON REPLACED THE FACTORY STEREO IN HIS CAR, EVER SINCE THEN HIS DASHLIGHTS AND RIGHT TAILLIGHT QUIT WORKING. EVERYTHING I HAVE CHECKED ON FEEDS THESE TWO ITEMS TO THE BODY CONTROL MODULE.  THERE MUST BE A WAY OF RESETTING THIS MODULE TO ACCEPT THE NEW STEREO AND KEEP THE LIGHTS ON, ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Answer:  Hi Hal,
I have the '03 shop manual and that doesn't seem to involve the body controller in the rear lighting at all. The right tail and stop lamps are fed from the left tail and stop lamps on their respective wires so either you have a wire, socket or bulb filament problem if the left side is OK.
On dash lights, are they all out (cluster, heater controls, trans range illumination, etc)? If so, then the body computer could be involved. But because the radio illumination is also part of the panel lamps circuit, and that is what was changed, I wonder if that change out may have messed up the output from the body controller to all the other bulbs on the dash. I suspect that there may be an issue with the orange/brown wire that is in the harness at the radio (the lamp voltage supply) as to what was done with it when attaching the new radio. That same voltage supply appears to be shared by the other lamps (coming out on different wires of the body control albeit) so take a look at that wire and what it is now connected to in the new radio. If you unplug the radio do the dash lights come back on? I assume that you checked the variable illumination rheostat to be sure you aren't in the 'off' position. I can tell you about how to trace the wires for that part of the illumination control circuit.

Follow-up answer
Hi Hal,
You didn't answer my question as to whether all the "dash" lights are off, or just some. If all are off, then I would check fuse 10 in the power distribution box under the hood, and also fuse 11 in the box under the dash as those are the fuses that supply current for the illumination of all the dash. Test them electrically or look very carefully at their wire's for any subtle cracks. Also test fuse 11 for whether it has voltage when the ignition switch is on.
If some are 'on' then the issue is the specific wire to that light or the light socket, of the specfic bulb(s).
On the rear lights, if you measure voltage to the left tail light bulb filaments and you don't have voltage on the same black/yellow  wire to the right side plug for the tail light filament then there is a disconnect in the wire coming from the left over to the right side. This circuit has nothing to do with the body controller, and is a simple paralled circuit for the two tail lights and the license light. The problem has to be 'local' at the rear of the car.
The body control module is fused but only to supply its own logic/function; it doesn't manipulate power to other circuits to any significant extent.

PS Thanks for the earlier evaluation and nomination. If you would be so kind as to do that again I would be most thankful as I am in a 'tight' race to be recognized as "exert of the month".
