Chrysler Repair: 2000 Chrysler 300 M starter ratlles, solenoid switch, 2000 chrysler 300m

Question
I have just replaced a starter for a 2000 Chrysler 300M and all the bolts are alined and the plugs in place but I have a rattle come for the starter eventhough the car starts just fine. Do you have any idea what might be the problem?

Answer
Hi Tq,
There is a spacer that fits between the starter motor and the flange on the transaxle housing to which it bolts. Are you certain that the spacer was replaced in that position when you mounted it? The absensce of that spacer is the only thing I can suggest; unless you didn't get the bolts tight (40 foot-pounds). The last possibiity is that the starter solenoid switch is rattling againt the transaxle housing or something else (the manual speaks of removing it from the housing when disassembling, but doesn't show a picture so I can't be sure of that).
Those are the possibilities that I can see.

Thanks a lot. I used the spacer that we was already there. Would I need a different spacer with a new starter?

Hi Tq,
No, so long as you used the spacer that should do it. The procedure speaks also removing a nut fron the catalyst support bracket and 2 nuts from the catalyst support bracket mounting. Might any of those be loose? You may need to jack up the front and look/listen while a helper cranks it over. It may be something inside the starter motor if nothing external to it seem to be the source. You can use a length of rubber tubing as an 'ear horn' to try and localize where the sound is coming from.
Thanks so much for the nomination.
