Chrysler Repair: Wheel wobbles, front wheel alignment, alignment shop

My right wheel wobbles at high speed.  Some one checked the wheel on a mount and the shook it back and forth and it just wobbled.  He said that it was the rack and pinion.  (What is that).  Do you have any idea how much something like this would cost and is that really the case?

Hi Neil,
I wouldn't jump to any conclusion based on shaking the wheel back and forth. You need to have the car on a rack also to see where the looseness is most significant. It could also tie rod joints or other parts of the front/steering suspension. An independent front wheel alignment shop would be the best place to go to have this evaluated. For that reason I would not hazard a cost estimate.
