Chrysler Repair: 2000neon camshaft positioning sensor, cam sensor, fuel mileage

Question
I bypassed sensor by running a wire from a hot wire when turning the key and using a horn botton to start, at time i didnt know why car wouldnt start. what does the cam sensor control? and what problems if any should i encounter running car without cam positioning sensor?

Answer
Hi Mike,
That is 'creative'! The main thing the cam sensor does is synchronize the fuel injectors to the 'inhale' stroke of each cylinder. So you may find a reduced fuel mileage as the result. It would be desireable to replace the cam sensor for that reason. I am not clear how you re-wired things but it would be safer to put it all back together the way it is supposed to be so that there is no chance of fire in the event of an accident.
