Chrysler Repair: 03 Concorde pcm replacement, salvage yard, immobilizer system

Question
Hi Roland. I was told by my mechanic that the computer was bad and needed replaced on my 03 concorde. I found one at a salvage yard and switched it out. now the car wont even stay running. Is there something that I have not done? I have heard that it needs reprogrammed and then I have heard that you can't reprogram them. Please help. thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Tony,
The PCM can and must be reprogrammed when moved from one car to another. There are data shared by the PCM with the body control module, ABS system, Air bag system, the Security Key Immobilizer System' module, and in addition the Security keys, VIN and mileage has to be re-matched. Probably you have an issue with the anti-theft system mis-match that is shutting down the engine. If you can get it to run far enough to get to a knowledgeable mechanic/dealer by using the old pcm I would suggest doing that. It takes a shop-level code communication device and a manual/trained individual to get it in working order, unfortunately. The PCM you picked up should be from a vehicle that matches your vehicle as closely as possible.
Sorry to say all this but that is the way thing are. Did the mechanic say what fault code he observed which led him to believe the old pcm was not working properly?
