Chrysler Repair: headlamps flaky: LHS, chrysler lhs, low beams

Question
I have a 96 Chrysler LHS, on the drivers side the high beam works but the high beam doesn't. I replaced the bulb and now the low beam works but not  the high beam. Passengers side works fine

Answer
Hi Ray,
The headlamp switch provides power to each of the bulb filaments by an individual fuse. But the low beam fuses are fed by common wire from the switch, so that if there is a problem such as you describe then either the fuse for the beam that isn't working is flaky, or the wire from the fuse is flaky between the fuse and the bulb plug or there is a loose or corroded connection at the bulb plug. I would check fuse 15 when you have the low beams 'on', and fuse 11 when you have the high beams 'on', to see if BOTH sides of the respective fuses showa 12V to be present. If so, then the problem has to be at the plug at the bulb or the wire along the way. If not, then change the fuse or clean up the fuse socket which may be oxidized. These fuses are the ones behind the dash which you access by removing the panel on the end of the dash on the driver's side.
I can't understand why changing the bulb reversed the problem, but it makes me suspect that the problem is at the plug to the bulb rather than the fuses or the wires. But the fuses are easily checked to begin with so that is where I would start.

May I ask a favor? I am seeking to be 'expert of the month' and so if you would use the 'thank/rate' tab below and put a 'yes' where the 'nomination' question is raised, I would be most appreciative. Happy Holidays!
