Chrysler Repair: 300m trunk lock, latch releases, fuse box

Question
I have a chrysler 300m.  Just recently, the remote trunk lock stopped working and so did the trunk lock button on the dash board.  I have two remotes and tried both of them with no success.  The other 4 doors work okay.  I'm fairly handy at repairing things, but I just have no idea where to start when looking for this problem.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Roger,
My latest manual is for the '99 model year so keep that in mind.
There is a release solenoid (unlatches the lock) mounted inside the trunk in association with the latch mechanism. It has a three-pin black plug which only uses 2 wires on pin 1 (black, a ground wire) and pin 3 (black/white, a momentary 12v wire that comes from the body control module under the dash, which is activated by the trunk release switch). I would open the trunk lid, by hand close the latch mechanism, then try the lock button as usual to see if the latch releases or not.
If not, then I would check to see if you have that 12V pulse on the black/white wire or not. If so, then the release solenoid is probably bad, or the ground wire is loose nearby. If you don't have the 12v, then you would want to check the black/white's continuity to pin 7 of of the plug (called C7, color not given but between a green plug and a gray plug on the back side of the fuse box behind the dash. And you can verify that the plug on the trunk release switch mounted on the dash is indeed plugged in tightly.
If the latch releases, then the problem is mechanical, the trunk latch is too firmly connected to the loop with which it meshes, or is binding up and needs some lubrication. You could try loosening the latch striker to make the friction between the latch and striker less.
I hope this helpful.
Roland
