Chrysler Repair: No low beams: Cirrus/Stratus, headlamp switch, low beams

Question
I have a 1999 Dodge Stratus, 2.4 L engine.  Yesterday, the headlights stopped working, but the high beams still work.  I saw your answer for another Chrysler product on this website, and I thought I'd ask for your help on my specific Dodge model.  I just changed the headlights within the last year and I was careful not to touch the bulbs while doing it, so I hope that isn't the issue.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Josh

Answer
Hi Josh,
Did you check fuses 12 and 13 in the underdash fuse box? And did you try to measure whether those fuses show 12V with the headlights on and the low beam selected? If the fuses are ok, and provided with powerm then the lights should go 'on'. If not, then the bulbs are bad. If no power is getting to fuses:
It appears to me that either the contacts for the low beam in the multifunction switch are not conducting, or that the delayed headlamp relay is not working/contacts not conducting (which is located in the underdash fuse block). If you have a voltmeter you can check pin 5 of that relay socket (the middle vertical one) to see whether it has 12V on it when you have the low beam position selected. If not, then the headlamp switch has a problem. If it does, then I would turn the switch off and on to feel/listen as to whether the coil inside the relay is clicking. If not then the relay is likely bad (or it could be a problem in the body computer); if it does click, then the body computer is ok, and the switch contacts in the relay are bad and you can try switching out the 'delayed headlamp relay' for another one of the same part number to see if that restores the headlamps.
Those are the possible reasons. Let me know if you have any other questions, or results to report by using the "thank/rate" tab below to get back to me without having to wait for me to be 'available' to take a question.
