Chrysler Repair: MAP sensor: 86 2.2L tbi, side kick panel, car coughs

Question
Hi Roland,
So here is my problem.  About a week ago, I put a new head gasket in my 86 Plymouth Reliant with the 2.2TBI, to try and fix a cold start problem.  That problem was fixed but I have a new cold start problem.  The car coughs and wheazes when its really cold, yet will run fine once I can get it up to operating temp.  The computer gave me code 13, so the map sensor or a vacume line.  My first question is do you think that the map sensor is my problem seeing as sometimes it runs fine and other times it doesn't? And the second question is what am I looking for?  I don't know where on the car to look other then the passenger side under the hood. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
   Kent

Answer
Hi Kent,
I wonder how things worked out with getting the cold start problem solved? You can report back if you like by the 'thank/rate' tab below, without having to wait for me to be 'available' to take a question. While you are there, if my answer was helpful I would appreciate a vote of 'yes' for the 'nomination to be expert of the month'. I am in a close race for that honor so every vote is helful. Thanks in advance.

Hi Kent,
I can't be sure that the MAP is the only problem, but I would deal with that code first and see. The sensor is actually part of the logic module which is in the cabin on the passenger-side kick panel. It is attached to the manifold through the fire wall via a vacuum hose. You may have forgotten to reconnect it when you did the head gasket. The nipple for it is at the base of the TB, on the side which is opposite to the throttle lever/accelerator cable. So check for that vacuum line, and its 'condition' if you find it to be present.
The other possibility is that the coolant temp sensor is not connected or inaccurate. That too has codes (17/22) so watch for either of those.
Roland
