Chrysler Repair: 97 Concorde Brake Lights, 1997 chrysler concorde, chrysler concorde

Question
I have a 1997 Chrysler Concorde, 3.5 engine.  Just recently I notice the brake lights stopped working.  The running lights still work, along with the turn signals.  I just checked the fuse for the brake lamps and it was fine.  Also replaced some of the bulbs and that wasn't the problem either.  Wondering if you have any suggestions on what I can try before taking it into the shop.

Answer
Hi Charles,
I assume that you mean fuse #4. Check to be sure that fuse has voltage on it would be the first step. It should be there all the time. Then I would check to be sure it is getting to the stop lamp switch on a bracket adjacent to the brake pedal lever on the pink/dark blue wire. Then make sure the switch closes when you step on the brake (white/tan wire should show 12V when you do that). Finally verify that it is reaching the rear end where there are multi-wire connectors on each side, one of which is white/tan. There a splice on the floor at the lower rear corner of the left side rear door where the white/tan splits to high mounted stop light and then to the two connectors mentioned above, so that is another place where the voltage could be lost, assuming that it is getting 'out' of the stop lamp switch.
So that is how I would try to run down this problem. I suspect the brake switch, but can't be sure. It has an adjustment feature: You push it as far forward in its bracket as you can, then pull the brake pedal backwards gently as far as you can to adjust the switch position automatically.
