Answer
Hi Richard,
Earlier this month you asked me a question about a problem with you vehicle. Now I need to ask a favor of you. I am competing for the honor of being the "Expert of the Month" for December. You can help me by going the the 'thank/rate' tab below and look for the question that asks if you think I should be so-honored. If you would select the 'yes' option I would be most appreciative. Please do this before 6pm CST tomorrow, New Year's Eve when the competition ends. I wish that your Chrysler vehicle is running well and gives you good service in the New Year!

Hi Richard,
I checked the '98 manual which is the closest one that I have and the only possibilities are a problem related to the installation of the unit (which if factory installed and not removed at any time is probably not the reason), a scratched CD disc or a dirty CD disc (which would not apply if all discs are doing the same thing), or
'normal' for 'extreme bumps or excessive vibrations'. There is no definition of those terms.
Maybe you have some problem with a tire/wheel or shock absorbers worn out?
You might want to gently pry off the bezel that surrounds the audio unit and heater controls and check that the two screws that secure it in place are tight.
Please let me know if you find an answer to this.
