Chrysler Repair: Courtesy lights wont turn off, chrysler sebring cabrio, chrysler sebring

Question
Hi Roland
When you replied to my previous query with regards to my 2006 Chrysler Sebring Cabrio 2.7 Touring you gave me great information together with asking me to clarify a few things, such as whether the lights stay on - yes they do even after all doors are shut and locked! And they also stay on whilst driving and indefinitely whilst parked.

I have not been able to locate the dashligt controls which I try to read up about it as per your previous answer. Also you mentioned that it could be a problem with the timer which controls the dimming of all inside lighting. Where is this timer located?
Thank you so much again for your efforts - it is very much appreciated, especially as mentioned before, nobody here in the UK seems to know anything about this car (however I am very proud to be probably the only owner of such a model int he UK!) it's just when something goes wrong, it bears its disadvantages.! Thanks again, best wishes
Barbara

Answer
Hi Barbara,
My thought is that the push button, on one of the door frames which senses when you open either door and thus turns on the courtesy lights, is not being pushed in far enough to cause the lights to go off when the door is closed. It usually is found in the corner of the door frame at the bottom rear of the opening or in the door hinge area. Often the specific problem is due to the door latch striker loop, also in the frame, is not adjusted properly so the door is not latched firmly enough into the frame too push the button in far enough. The solution is to loosen the screws on that loop, move it in-board a few millimeters and then see if the lights will go off and the door will still latch shut. So try pushing inward on the doors to see if either one will cause the lights to go "off". Otherwise, it may be a problem with the wire to one of those two switches has become disconnected and is touching nearby metal which would also cause the lights to stay "on". I doubt it is the timer (which is built-in to the body control module) or the manual internal control switch (which would be activated by the dash dimmer adjustment typically), but those are back-up possibilities.
Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.
Roland
Thanks again for the nomination and kind remarks.
