Chrysler Repair: ABS brakes: can ABS be removed?, hydraulic accumulator, power brake booster

Question
QUESTION: on a 1990 chrysler imperial with Bosch A.B.S unit can it be change over to regular brake system? if so how to do?

ANSWER: Hi David,
Is it the case that the brakes are not working because of a failure in the ABS?
The brake system is supposed to not be impaired by a malfunction of the ABS, so you would under most circumstances not gain anything by removing the ABS. Let me know specifically what the problem is with that approach.
I reviewed the parts manual for the ABS system and it appears to be so extensively different from that used in the conventional system that it would be impractical to try and remove it and replace it with the conventional system. You would need to install a power brake booster and do a great deal of hydraulic line replacing which, if you did it yourself might be practical, but a great deal of work. To have a shop do this would not be economically feasible. Finding out what is wrong with the abs and getting used parts from a wreching yard might be the best approach.

QUESTION: The problem with my Bosch ABS system is its leaking fluid from the hydraulic accumulator were the accumulator tank
threads in to base. Is there a o-ring or seal i can replace to stop the leak.

Answer
Hi David,
I show an 'accumulator o-ring' #4294 738 so that is a starting point to describe what you need when you go to a Chrysler dealership parts counter or a professional brake repair/parts shop. It comes from a '91 update sheet for the ABS-3 setup first used in '88. Whether that is exactly correct for your '90 would be determined by the parts counter people. Good luck on sealing that leak.
