Chrysler Repair: 98 Town & Country ignition switch replacement, electrical diagnostics, internal connections

Question
My 98 van ignition tumbler needs to be replaced.  I bought a used piece from junkyard.  How do I replace?  I also pulled the old tumbler out with the battery connected.  When I pulled the tumbler, the electrical system went out.  When I put the used tumbler or the original tumbler the electrical still does not come on. Did I hurt the electrical system by pulling the ignition with the battery attached?  Do I need to do any electrical diagnostics?

Answer
Hi Phil
Either some fuses were blown or the ignition switch was damaged. Here are the fuses you have to evaluate:
In the underhood box:23,28,26,
So check those out and let me know. Does it feel like the ignition switch is mechanically connected to the tumbler? For that to occur the tumbler has to have been inserted in the same position as the old tumbler was positioned when it was removed.
You may have to verify that the ignition switch is working and for that I would want to send you the wiring diagram showing the contacts of the switch and the internal connections.
Use the "thank/rate" tab below to get back to me with the results of your check on the fuses, etc. If you want the wiring diagram of the switch let me know a postal mailing address and I will xerox copy and mail it to you.

I put the pages in this afternoon's mail.
