Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Sebring Heater, chrysler sebring, lukewarm air

Question
I have a 2001 Sebring that has heat, however at slower speeds (under 50) and when stopped, it only puts out cold/lukewarm air. It also takes several miles before the heat gets hot.  Any ideas what the problem could be?

Answer
Hi Melanie,
Do you notice that the temperature gauge also is lower when you are stopped or moving at slower speeds than when you are driving over 50?
If so, then that suggests that your thermostat is opening at too low a temperature such that the heat the engine is creating is being allowed to be dissipated from the radiator too much and leaving you with too cool a water temperature in the system. If the temp on the gauge remains about the same regardless of the speed you are driving then I would wonder if you might have some crud in the radiator that impedes the flow of water through it and thus you would want to reverse flush the core using a garden hose.
Those are the more likely reasons. Let me know what you think based on the observation.
