Chrysler Repair: Alarm system work around? 98 minivan, rear deck lid, chrysler town and country

Question
my 98 chrysler town and country goes through the 2-3 times of starting and stopping after a few seconds.  i've tried the key system of locking and unlocking, etc., and it never works.  any other suggestions? can the alarm system be permanently disabled?

Answer
Hi Dave,
The only way to 'disable' the system is never to invoke it to arm. That can be done by never using the power door locks, the door key, or the remote to secure the van. Only use the internal mechanical push-buttons to lock the doors and you won't get shut down by the system.
It can't be removed because it is integral to the body computer/engine computer interface. It may be possible to shut it down for about 25 on-off ignition key cycles by simply opening the hood then lock/unlock the rear deck lid which re-starts a countdown until the system goes back into action.
The chances are the wire connection between the door locks and the body computer are "open" so that would be the repair approach if you want to do some re-wiring, or you also might try injecting at the inputs of those two wires a signal that mimics what the door locks input, but again that requires some wiring to create a work-around. So those are the choices. I wish there were a simple fix, but if you can remind yourself about how to secure the van when you leave it you can solve the problem that way with no expense.
