Chrysler Repair: sputtering when step on the brake pedal, chrysler cirrus, 2000 chrysler cirrus

Question
I have a 2000 chrysler cirrus LX with a 2.4l 4cyl. On cold starts, when I put my foot on the brake to get in any gear, it seems like the engine wants to quit. Just changed air filter, changed plug wires last fall. What else could be causing this problem. Car runs great otherwise, I'm getting between 280 and 315 miles of city dirving on a full tank of 87 octane gas.
Thanks, David.

Answer
Hi David,
It may be related to a vacuum leak associated with the power brake unit, so take a look at the hose that connects to that unit from the intake manifold for possibly having a loose clamp at either end or a damaged hose. Also, go to an Autozone parts store for a free fault code readout or to an indendent shop which will do the code readout for around $40. Get any four-digit fault code numbers and get back with the results and we'll go from there.
