Chrysler Repair: PT CRUISER ECU PROBLEM, trouble code, immobilizer

Question
A 2001 Pt Cruiser got its ECU burnt and it needs replacement.what are the procedure invovle because i know the car might not start if a used ECU is bought for a replacement. Do i have to get the Key reprogrammed after ECU replacement?

Answer
Hi Bode,
According to a 2001 manual for the LH cars that I have, if the ECU is replaced without the VIN and mileage being reprogrammed, a diagnostic trouble code will be set in the ABS module (if equipped), airbag module, and security key immobilizer module. The SKIM data must be updated as well. I am not certain whether you will be prevented from starting the car and driving to a dealer to have this programming done or not. But it apperars you need to have it done as part of completing the installation of a replacement ECU.
