QuestionI have a 98 Chrysler Sebring LXI convertible 2.5, 6 cyl. I have repeated and
intermittent starting trouble. It's narrowed down to no spark, thus the
complete distributor has been replaced, as well as the crankshaft position
sensor. As of recent I also replaced the battery. The problem still persists.
I took it to a Chrysler dealer and it acted up for them - they told me a new
distributor for $1,300. I said no because I'd replaced the distributor about 9
months earlier. I got the car home, replaced the distributor myself (since it
was under warranty and thinking it – just may be bad) and about six starts
later there is sat in front of my house with the same thing - no spark/no
start.
I've had it towed a couple of times and once it's home and you give it a little
time it starts but the start/no start cycle continues. I'm very frustrated. I love
the car but I'm about ready to sell it.
Any ideas? Could it be the anti-theft system?
Thanks,
Keith
AnswerHi Keith,
Yes, it could be the anti-theft system. The symptom of the system not being disarmed would be that the engine would start and run for about a second or two and then shuts off as the result of the ASD relay being de-activated by the computer. If there is no spark from the very first turn of the starter that would not be due to the anti-theft system. So tell me specifically what the symptoms are on that point. How about the anti-theft indicator light on the dash when this happens, is it on or off?
Sorry for the delay in responding...your question was just referred to the question 'pool' where I discovered it.
