Chrysler Repair: 1996 Chrysler Sebring Convertable, chrysler sebring, question pool

Question
I have a 1996 Chrysler sebring convertable.  I have had problems getting it started durring and after rainy weather, and when the temperature changes.  Itwill turn over, but not start, and this takes about 5 minutes to get started.  Recently, it did the same thing, but ran my battery down.  Now the battery is fixed, but the car will not turn over, and the battery is still fully charged.  Is this a problem with the starter, the alternator, or something else?

Answer
Hi Dan,
I think you can find out the cause of the problem if you can get the fault codes that might be stored in the engine control module to read out and give a clue as to what is wrong. Try the ignition key: "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light which remains "on" to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure you have the counts accurately. Then write back and we'll go from there.

PS I just found your question in the 'question pool' so that is the reason for the delay. Use the "thank/rate" tab below to get back to me quickly without having to wait for me to be 'available' for a question. I assume that you have the 2.5L V-6, otherwise let me know.
