Chrysler Repair: Tail light fuses blow, digital ohmmeter, chryler sebring

Question
I have a 1997 Chryler Sebring and i keep blowing my fuse to work the tail lights. I have brake lights but nothing else. Ive blown 2 15watt fuses and one 20 watt fuse and i was wondering what the problem could be?

Answer
Hi Bill,
I assume that you have the convertible, otherwise tell me as the following is based on the convertible.
Please tell me which fuses by number or name.
There is a combined rear lighting module mounted inside the trunk on the left inner fender bulge, upper rear corner. You can unplug that and from that plug, if you have a digital ohmmeter, check which of the multicolored wires (on pins 4,6,8) are shorted to ground. They should show low but non-zero resistance. Those are the brake and turn/signal wires.
There are also two connectors near the bulbs, one on each side, that carry those wire as well as wires for the running lights. Check the resistance of pins 1,3, and 4, to pin 2 of each connector, which again should be low but not zero. Let me know the colors that are shorted (0) and we can go from there. Alternatively, check for shorts at each socket. Probably one of the bulbs has an internal short with the socket.
