Chrysler Repair: passenger rear door lock: LHS, spray lubricant, 97 chrysler lhs

Question
97 Chrysler LHS. The door lock on the passenger side rear is inoperative. It makes a sound but does not activate.

Answer
Hi George,
I would first suggest that the latch mechanism should be lubricated as best you can, using a light weight oil on accessible moving parts and then use a spray can lubricant with a straw applicator to squirt lube into any access holes that you can find. Perhaps rolling down the window will also allow you to get some spray lubricant in the latch meachanism. The fact that you hear a response shows that the electrical circuit is good.  If that doesn't work then you will have to remove the door trim panel and remove the latch, and then replace the latch operating motor. I have the '94-7 shop manual and there are a couple of pages about doing the trim panel and the latch mechanism R&R.
