Chrysler Repair: No Starter, engine died: 2000 Neon, dodge neon, neon 2

Question
I have a 2000 Dodge Neon, 2.0.  The other week, I pulled out of a lot, and into the turn into the road my car just died.  It did not spit, sputter, or chug, just quit running.  Everything that is connected with the battery works fine, and everything else works, but when you turn the key to start it, there is no sound at all.  I replaced all the "fork" fuses in the car and under the hood.  I have cleaned the battery posts, still nothing.  I wouldn't think that the starter or the alternator would have went down and caused the car to react this way.  In most cases this would have happened after turning the engine off, had it been starter or alternator.  What could have caused the car to just die and not start again?  We have exhausted all our ideas, please give me some input on this.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Angela,
I would recheck fuse 11 in the box next to the battery (30 amp) as if it goes so too goes the starter and the engine. Substitute another fuse, say number 5,6 or 23 which are the same size, just in case the fuse is cracked and not frankly blown. If that fuse is good, then listen for whether the fuel pump runs for about a second when you first turn the ignition switch to run, or not. If not, and you are sure the fuse 11 is good, then my suspicion is the ignition switch, but I would want to check for voltage at some of the sub-fuses under the dash first. Do you have a voltmeter, or a 12V test light?
Use the "thank/rate" tab to get back to me without having to wait for me to be 'available for a question'. I am working with the '97 manual so if the fuses I point to don't add up, I will need to get other info about the power distribution box on your 2000 model.
