Chrysler Repair: 1991 Dodge Dynasty headlamps, parking lights, dash lights, dodge dynasty, wiring schematics

Question
Roland;

I have a 91 dodge dynasty.  My problem is with the headlamps, and parking lights/dash lights.  Everytime I pull the headlamp switch to the first position, my taillights come on.  When, I pull it all the way out, my taillights, parking lights, and dash lights, go out, and my headlights come on.  I already replaced the headlamp switch in the dash.  One more thing.  If I pull the headlamp switch out, just a bit, to where I see my dashlights come on, I have parking and taillights (no headlights), But, I get the headlamps to come on by pulling on the brights switch located on the column.  I need some help.  Any ideas?  Plus, I can't find any wiring schematics (without paying a pretty penny for them) anywhere online.

Sincerely;

Mark Munoz

Answer
Hi Mark,
I have the '91 wiring diagrams. The strange thing about your situation is that the only source of power for the dash, tail, parking, is one section of the ignition switch. a black/yellow wire on pin R which is supposed to be powered in both the positions of that switch. You might try rotating the knob to see if that affects anything (the variable dash intensity resistor). The headlight coming 'on' by using the brights switch is normal, it is called the "optical horn" and just flashes the brights. You could try remoing fuse 5 under the dash to take out the dash light source to see if that gets you back the running lights.
Test for voltage on pin R of the switch and see if it drops out in the second position of the switch. I just don't see any obvious reason for the running lights to go out that way. Let me know what you find.

PS let me know which engine you have and whether the headlamps are aero style or hidden style, and if it was make for sale in Canada. You can get back to me via the "thank/rate" tab as you won't have to wait for me to be 'available'.
