Chrysler Repair: keeps on dyin, dodge stratus, independent shop

Question
my 2000 dodge stratus 2.4l continues to die on me for no apparent reason. after
a few minutes it will usually start back up. please help, i am getting overly
frustrated with this car. By the way the check engine light is NOT coming on. i'm
completely lost.

Answer
Hi Shane,
The fact that the check engine light is not coming on does not mean that there is nothing wrong that has been noticed by the engine computer. Many faults do not produce a check engine light. Therefore I would recommend a fault code readout:
Possibly for free at an Autozone parts store if there is one nearby
Possibly for a cost of under $40 at an independent shop
Ask for the 4-digit fault code numbers, what they mean, what they would recommend doing, and at what cost. Then write back with the results and we'll go from there.
When you say the check engine light is NOT coming on, I assume that when you turn the ignition switch to run that the light does appear and that it then goes off once the car is started, correct?
