Chrysler Repair: T&C 2001: fault code P0601, data communication system, digit code number

Question
QUESTION: Roland, after I did the fuel gauge test, it worked but I have CHECK ENGINE SIGNAL. A mechanic did and the code we had was  PO 60 . What does it mean or what needs to be done..
thanks

ANSWER: Hi Mabel,
I am glad to learn that the fuel gauge now works. On the fault code, are you sure the code was P060? The codes are usually 4 digits rather than 3. Might it have been 0160 or 0600? There is no code 0060. Please ask the mechanic again, or have him read it again (for free!) until you get a four digit code number. If you don't want to go back, then if there is an Autozone parts store near you they will usually do a readout for free. Once you get a clear valid code I can tell you what it means and what to do about it. But you could also ask whoever does the next readout what it means and what he recommends be done, and for how much money. Then we can compare notes with my Chrysler shop manuals.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,
The code for the CHECK ENGINE SIGNAL IS PO601.The mechanic doesnt know what it is. Is waiting for me to tell him.
Hope you can let me what that is.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Mabel,
That one means there is some sort of a software failure in the powertrain (engine) control module. The "fix" is to replace the entire engine control module (expensive). However, in light of the "history" with the fuel gauge (which is dependent on the software/data communication system) I wouldn't do anything yet. I would simply disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect it, which cancels the code, and wait to see if the P0601 code returns or not.
How is the van running otherwise?
Are you facing an inspection for license renewal?
If nothing is pressing on you and it is running OK, then wait and see what happens.
That is my "conservative" suggestion at this point, Mabel.
