Chrysler Repair: P0403 and also brake light/reverse light problems., continuity tester, dodge caravan

Question
I have a 2001 dodge caravan 3.3l engine light is on for atleast two months now, and when i drive the reverse light is on .no break light even when iam stopping. i took it to out value to diagnos the problem, they came up with this code p0403, what does that means?

Answer
The P0403 has to do with the egr valve's solenoid control circuit either being open or shorted. That would be well to repair but it is not related to the reverse/brake light problem.
Unfortunately I don't have wiring diagrams for a '01 van, the latest being '98. If you don't have the running/head lamps 'on' then I don't see any way for the reverse lamp to be on all the time unless there is a fault in the park/neutal safety switch which is on the rear corner of the transmission on the side closest to the front of the van. Let me know if you have a continuity tester or ohmmeter so as to be able to test the switch's function.
On the brake lamp, have you checked fuse 13 in the power distribution center under the hood? See if that one is labelled for the brake light as that is the one shown for the '98. If not a fuse, then check the switch itself located by the brake pedal lever in the cabin.
Because the problems both involve the rear lighting modules I thought about a common reason for the failures. But I don't see a relationship between these two.
