Chrysler Repair: Brake warning light flashes occasionally, brake warning light, dodge caravan

Question
I have a 1998 Dodge Caravan.  The "BRAKE" dash light has started to come on at times. Brakes seem to work fine.

Answer
Hi Joe,
The brake light is indicative of either an imbalance in the brake line hydraulic pressure between the two halves of the system and/or that the fluid level in the reservoir is low. It usually means that there is a leak either in a fitting or at an hyraulic cylinder at one of the four wheels. I would check the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir.  If it is low add fluid and also then look for any signs of brake fluid under the vehicle where you park it, and also look at the inside sidewalls of the four tires which would usually reveal which wheel cylinder is leaking if any are. If the fluid level is OK then the other possibility is that the parking brake lever has not returned to the full "off" position which would cause the light to come and go as you describe.
