Chrysler Repair: rear window repair on 2002 Sebring, reversal of polarity, postal mail

Question
My brother in law took my door panel off in an attempt to get my window up since the motor stopped working yesterday.  He had no luck getting it up.  Any ideas?  Hurrican Hannah due in a few days!

Answer
Hi Lisa,
I have a manual for the 2003 which is similar (though not identical) to the 1998 manual I also have, so it may apply to the 2002. I believe that in the driver door there is a "window drop relay assembly" (12 pin plug) which controls the power to the rear windows. It may be that assembly is at fault, the 12-pin window switch, or the motor at the window mechanism itself, or the window mechanism is binding. If he still has the drive's door apart, I will give him the wiring color codes to check for the voltage output of that assembly.  If the switch and assembly is ok, then going to the window motor by removing the interior trim panel next to it will be necessary.
The '03 diagram shows the wires that drive the right rear window are found at the master window switch (pin 4, gray/black) and the window drop relay assembly nearby (pin 10, dark green/white). These wires should read 12V between them, and the polarity should switch when the window switch it activated up vs down. If it does so, then the switch and the relay are OK and you will need to take apart the rear trim panel, etc. If he finds that the window relay has 9 pins instead of 12, then the '98 manual circuit diagram applies and I will give you the pin assignments for that set up to check the voltage to the motor.
I can xerox copy and postal mail you a few pages on how to do that. Then he can verify the same voltage reading between the two wires and their reversal of polarity or not. If that happens, then either the window is stuck or the motor is bad. That can be examined and tested by removing the motor from the mechanism.
