Answer
Hi Bernadette,
The best way to go is to get a fault code readout to see if the engine computer has sensed what is wrong. It may be possible to do that with you ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watct the check engine light, which remain "on", to see if it begins to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause, then repeat the procedure to verify that you have the counts accurately. Then write back with the count results. Use the 'thank/rate' tab below to get back to me quickly without having to wait for me to be available.
If the flashing doesn't happen, then you will need to go to either an Autozone parts store for a free readout with an instrulment called a fault code reader, or go to an independent shop and they will do it for around $40. Ask specifically for the fault code numbers, what they mean, what they recommend, and for how much. Again, write back and tell me the numbers and we can compare what you were told with the shop manual.
The oil pressure is just bouncing because the engine rpm is unsteady so don't be concerned about that. Chances are it is one of the engine sensors that is needed to time the spark/fuel injection pulse, but we need to know that for sure and also which of two sensors is going bad.
