Chrysler Repair: disabling factory alarm: pre-body computer vehicles, chrysler new yorker, drb ii

Question
how do u disable the security system on a 1991 chrysler new yorker fifth avenue??? can u cut a wire from the wire harness??

Answer
Hi Darius,
No, you don't cut any wires. You have to go to the theft module which is located above the glove box (remove the screws around the door opening and drop it out). Then you will see a cross member that supports the module which you may want to detach to bring the box into better view. It has a single 21-pin plug that is natural in color. Then you start the engine and have it running and finally then pull the 21 pin plug out of the module. Then shut off the engine. This is the only way to remove the system and avoid having the engine shut down "hard" which would require intervention with a DRB II diagnostic box to reclaim the normal operation.
Cars that have a body computer can not be disarmed as easily because the theft system is part of that computer. All you can do then is avoid arming it by never using the power locks, key lock or remote. Only use the mechanical push-buttons to secure the vehicle.
