Chrysler Repair: temp & outlet controls/only high speed blower: 2000 T & C, blower motor resistor, postal mail

Question
blower only works on high the position switch only blows out the dash and the temperture controls only on cold

Answer
Hi Kyle,
The blower only running on high usually means the blower motor resistor block is burned out. In the '98 manual I have it is shown to be located under the hood at the rear of the compartment on the firewall area where there are several rectangular openings. The block is hidden from view below the wiper module on the lower edge of one of those openings. It has a 5 wire plug on the cabin side of the the opening. If you don't find it, then I know in the 2001 model it was in the cabin, behind the glove box again with the resistors sticking thru the firewall where the air intake would cool them. I just don't know in what year the block was moved between '98 and '01
If you find it in the first location you use a couple of flat blade screwdrivers to release the block and pull it into the engine compartment. On the hidden side push on a spring tang on the driver's side narrow edge of the block and on the comparment side you will see a couple of etched lines on that same side showing where to put the tip of the other screwdriver to pry it forward into the compartment.
Get a replacement block and install making sure the resistors aren't touching one another. If you have trouble removing it I can send you a page that shows what I described above.
On the direction of air delivery the issue is a mode door actuator, and similarly on the temp it is the blend door actuator. There is a calibration and self-diagnostic test that you can run using various buttons on the control panel, however, that may correct the problem.

The engine has to be running to do the calibration and diagnositics.
Set the blower to run on High. Set the Mode door to Panel. Open all A/C outlets. Set the temperature to Cold (both if you have the rear unit). Depress the Wash and Rear wiper buttons simultaneously and hold for 5 seconds, then release them.
Then let the unit run thru everything it does. If the calibraion and diagnostics is run successfully it ends with just the rear wiper LED flashing. If that doesn't happen then there are about 6 pages of possible results to consider. I can copy those and postal mail them to you. Try the procedure first. Let me know if this doesn't correct the problem.

Use the "thank and rate" tab to enter a postal mailing address in the comments area. That way you won't have to wait for me to become available again. Let me know where you found the block to be located, please.
