Chrysler Repair: PT Cruiser P1494 Code., negative battery cable, powertrain control module


Question
Getting the dreaded P1494 code on my wife's 2001 Pt Cruiser.
Automatic Trans with 51,000 on it. Leak detection pump pressure switch or mechanical fault.
What is it, where is it & How much to fix it?

Symptom:
P1494-LEAK DETECTION PUMP SW OR MECHANICAL FAULT
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P1494-LEAK DETECTION PUMP SW OR MECHANICAL FAULT
When Monitored: Immediately after a cold start, with battery/ambient temperature
between 40 deg. F and 90 deg. F and coolant temperature within 10 deg. F of battery/
ambient.
Set Condition: The state of the switch does not change when the solenoid is energized.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
VEHICLE HISTORY AND SERVICE BULLETIN INVESTIGATION
LDP SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
WIRING HARNESS INTERMITTENT
LDP VACUUM SUPPLY
FAULTY LEAK DETECTION PUMP
LDP SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT OPEN
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE



REMOVAL
Release fuel pressure, Refer to Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure in the Fuel Delivery section.
Remove the air cleaner lid, disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor and makeup air hose.
Remove the negative battery cable.
Raise vehicle and support.
Drain fuel tank, refer to Draining Fuel Tank in the Fuel Delivery section Fuel Tank Drain
Remove fuel tank and EVAP system, refer to the Fuel Tank removal/installation section in the Fuel Delivery section.
Remove the 3 mounting screws LDP
Remove LDP from bracket.
Remove hoses from EVAP canister.
Disconnect electrical connector for Leak Detection Pump (LDP)
INSTALLATION
Connect electrical connector to the Leak Detection Pump (LDP)
Install hoses and lines.
Install LDP onto bracket LDP and tighten to 3.9 N·m (35 ins.lbs.)
Install the fuel tank and EVAP system, refer to the Fuel Tank removal/installation section in the Fuel Delivery section.
Lower vehicle.
Install the negative battery cable.
Install the air cleaner lid, connect the inlet air temperature sensor and makeup air hose.
Fill fuel tank. Use the DRB scan tool to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks.
