Chrysler Repair: 98 Plymouth Breeze, plymouth breeze, oxygen sensor

Question
Just recently my 98 Plymouth Breeze has started to act up. It is idling really badly. When I start the car it instantly goes to 1-1.5 RPM in neutral. The check engine light goes on and off. i had that check and it is just the oxygen sensor. What could be the problem? The car has less than 100,000 miles.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Mike,
Do you recall the fault code number, as that would be possibly relevant? Was this a recent readout?
In any case, I would start by addressing the fault code that you do know is present. When you reply please tell me which engine that you have. Does the engine start up the way you describe when it is cold and when it is hot?
The problem could be a dirty throttle body throat, throttle plate, and by-pass air passageway on the side of the throat, so you might want to take some solvent and q-tips and clean all those parts (including both sides of the plate) after having removed the input duct to the throttle body.
Those are the suggestions/questions I can offer now. Use the "thank and rate" tab to get back to me with any answers/progress, as that way I can get back to you quickly without your having to wait for my 'availability'.
