Chrysler Repair: Transmission Codes:35,36,51.53, chrysler concorde, speed sensors

Question
I previously asked u a question regarding problems with my 93 Chrysler Concorde and u said it probably was a Solenoid problem and to tell u the codes it had after taking it to the shop.I took it to AAMCO and they said it had the following codes 35,36,51&53 would a solenoid problem consists of those codes? The guys there seemed 2 know nothing about solenoid problems.

Answer
Hi Steven,
The 35 code is called "loss of prime" and is related to the hydraulic pump performance. It could be due to a plugged oil filter inside the transmission, or to simply low fluid level but I assume that you checked that. It could be due to the o-ring on the filter being damaged/missing. Because of the other codes suggest a rebuild
may be necessary I would suggest changing the filter and power flushing/replacement of the trans fluid. This will probably cost around $200. Use only ATF +4 fluid
The 51 code might be resolved by something short of a rebuild, such as a speed sensor (there are 2 speed sensors). But the 53 code alone says "rebuild". The 36 code just notes that another of the faults was detected immediately after a shift which implies a mechanical or hydraulic (pump perhaps?) problem rather than an electrical problem being responsible for that fault.
So with that in mind you can weigh whether to try the filter/flush in the hope of it solving the problem before a rebuild.
I don't believe any of these codes point toward the solenoid switches. It is good that you did get the readout, however.
