Chrysler Repair: faulty antitheft system, grand caravan, door locks

Question
I have a 97 grand caravan. some months back it wouldn't start , i took it to a garage they changed a computer moodule(?) which wouldn't let the car start, something to do withthe security system. well it is doing it again intermittantly, i was told this module either works or it doesn't. so what else could it be. this has been going on for months now.

Answer
Hi Stan,
Most likely it is the wire that connects the driver door lock to the computer (or the passenger door lock similarly) that is faulty and not getting the disarm signal to the computer. You could see if the passenger side key lock works better.
If you don't want to spend any money and are content to just secure the van without the anti-theft feature you can do that by always using the push-button mechanical door locks when securing it. Don't use the power door locks, the key lock, or the remote control to lock the van and the alsrm system will not set, and that should obviate the problem.
The theft alarm is part of the body computer so it can't be separated from all the other functions and removed.
There is a troubleshoot approach with a diagnostic readout box that would either verify my theory or identify another reason which can be performed at a dealer, for a price. So I'll leave it to you as to how to go, but these are the choices.
